Six minutes south of Kenting, Sail Rock Beach is the southernmost public beach in Taiwan (Shadao beach is further south, but it is an “ecological preserve” closed to public access). Named after the nearby “Sail Rock” (船帆石), the beach offers a great vantage point of this local tourist attraction, which is situated just off its shores. Sail Rock Beach is not particularly long from end to end, but it is quite broad and can get quite busy with action during the summer months.
The sand is at Sail Rock Beach is similar to the white coral sand you will find at South Bay or Big Bay. The light coral sand is typically quite clean, though waves can occasionally leave a little bit of ocean debris, seaweed or larger coral stones on the shore (it’s hardly an issue). The water is beautiful when the sun is just right – just beautiful! The water temperature, as with the other beaches in the neighborhood is always warm enough for a dip – even if the air temperature makes you think otherwise. |
- Things to do -
The beach has enough going to make you glad you came. There are umbrella rentals at market rate (which is around 250~300 NTD for the day; there are also jet ski rides and banana boat rides available for a price. A bathroom is located on the south-east side of the beach, next to the temple; but there are no showers, so, if you are too used to modern luxuries, you might find yourself complaining about the fact that there are no showers. Just a little down the road (south) you can find a 7-11 if you need to pick up food/drink. The southeast side of the beach is also not a bad place to do a little snorkeling, though make sure you check out the path of the jet skis before you chart your course.
