Dawan Beach (Big Bay Beach) is located in Taiwan's iconic beach town, Kenting, and is within walking distance from the main Kenting strip, where the night market is starts up come evening time.

Dawan (or Kenting Beach) is very beautiful and is a nice place to play in the sand and in the water along the shoreline depending on the waves. If you are looking for a place to swim, however, you will have to try another location as swimming at this beach is prohibited. The reason (according to a local lifeguard) is "strong currents" (most likely referring to a rip current (if you know them you will see them)). Nevertheless, surfing and the like are permitted, as long as you are equipped with the right gear to prevent yourself from floating off to the the Philippines.

The sand at Dawan is really quite nice -- its color, its texture, all first class beach material. The slope of the sand can change from time to time, especially when a typhoon rolls in. Sometimes the slop is steeper, sometimes much more shallow and drawn out. Whatever the case may be, it is still a very nice strip of sand.

The first think to know about the water here is that there are currents. If you are familiar with what they look like you will spot them when the waves are larger. As for the color, it might not be quite as vibrant as a few other beaches in the area, but its nothing to complain about.
